A Year in the Life: Spring 2015

So...I may be a little behind on updating our family blog....like a year and a half behind. I just thought of it when I was going to print my blog book (where you can print all your posts into a hardback book). I love doing this because the kids love going back and reading it and seeing the pictures.

So here I am...January 2017. My goal this year is to keep up with this so the kids have all the memories to look back on. Since I kinda just LOVE Gilmore Girls, I am taking that approach since there is so much to say and share and so little time.

So, today I am sharing right where I left off. Last time I posted it was Spring Break 2015 and I was also going to share pictures of my work trip to San Diego. So, I now present to you "A Year in the Life (of the Acker Family): Spring 2015 Edition. (Disclaimer: this is long).

In February 2015, I had just returned from an awesome conference with Megan (my amazing boss and friend). We attended the NASSP Ignite conference in San Diego and it was amazing. I had never been there and the conference was so insightful. We also had a lot of fun sight seeing (La Jolla, Balboa Park). Some of the highlights for me were meeting Todd Whitaker, having a tour from students at New Tech High, and seeing the cutest sea lions on the beach in La Jolla.

 So flash forward to the rest of Spring 2015. We enjoyed a quick trip to San Antonio. Joey had been to Sea World before but the kids and I had never been. We were anviously awaiting results from my biopsy (I had a 3cm thyroid nodule-we are still watching it now-more info on that another day) and once the results came back cancer free we decided to go celebrate at Sea World.

When we returned that next day, it was Easter!! We headed to church and then to Pawpaw and Mimi's and then Nana and Papa's for some egg hunting and good food!

Before we knew it, it was May! Soon we were signing Ella up for Kindergarten. Grayson celebrated getting the reading award in first grade (the only medal given), and Ella had her first dance recital and also graduated from Pre-K at her daycare. Along with celebrating family brithdays, May was a busy month for our family and I drank A LOT of Starbucks.

Friday Favorites: Spring Break!!!

Oh, spring break...you're breaking my heart along with every other educator. I am fortunate to have a job that I love in a great district (one of Dallas Morning News Top Places to Work...what? what?) and I am excited to see my amazing co workers and students but my mommy heart is a bit broken. I have loved the glorious mornings waking up around 9, enjoying my coffee, and enjoying cuddles and pankcakes (well the kids not me or Joey...haha).

#1 Downtown McKinney
Ummm....can I move here? It is just the cutest little city ever. While I may have pined over the thought of living in this precious town with one of the coolest downtown areas...there's no way I could leave our sweet city but plenty of visits will do! We visited the Main Street Magic shop which was worth the trip in itself, ate at Spoons (amazing), checked out the Star Wars store, shopped in cute boutiques, visited the old fashioned candy store, and couldn't leave without indulging at Emporium Pies which was heaven!!!

Sunday, we headed to my parents and I swear I couldn't get enough cuddles from my nephew, Falcon! The kids loved playing with Vann and Liv but I couldn't catch them long enough for a picture. Then we headed to Aunt Cindy's where she sent me home with tons of sewing stuff (I mean boxes) and a sewing machine. I just LOVE her!!!

#2 Chuck E Cheese Rainy Days: Monday, we headed to Chuck E Cheese since we let the kids choose the activities this week. It was perfect since it was a rainy day. You can never have enough pizza or gold tokens.

Tuesday, I headed to Nordstrom to meet up with my cousin Shelby and Tina. It was so fun helping pick out a new wardrobe for Shelby...lucky gal. It was fun to get out and do some shopping with some of my faves!

#3 The Perot Museum

I am not sure how this is our first visit to the Perot Museum but we loved it. Grayson and Ella wanted to do every activity and we pretty much spent the whole day there. Grayson's favorite exhibits were the STEM/Robotics area and the Dinosaurs. He may have had the biggest smile on his face EVER when he saw the dinosaurs. He actually asked ME to take pictures of him.  Joey had fun, too! Ella liked the water area and the Dallas themed playground at the Children's Museum and the dinosaurs. It was definitely a fun yet exhausting trip for us all. The kids also loved the frogs outside and Joey loved the xylophones..lol!

#4 Family Time

Yesterday, we headed to the library, park, and plenty of play time at McDonald's which is a big treat since we don't ever eat there. Luckily, Nana and Young Grandma came. It was so much fun to spend some time with them and even Uncle Michael met up for a bit. We hope to see my family this weekend., as well They have been busy with babies!!! Also, please keep my sister in your prayers because baby Lawson will be here soon! I can't wait!

#5 Sweet Friends

Last night, I met up with my sister in law, Lauren, over at Williams Party of Four and our friend Annie for some much needed Mommy/fellowship time. I love these girls and it was so nice to chat and laugh...way too much!! After that we headed over to check out some of Trend's items and shop (I will get to Trend in a bit). 

And today, we had a play date with one of my MSU besties, Cece, and her cute kiddos. Times have changed since college but we still have so much fun!

#6 Trend Boutique

I am in love with Trend's items and their prices. If you missed my post all about Trend, you can check it out HERE.  Last night, I just had to pick up some new distressed jeans (not online yet) that are all kinds of PERFECT and this super cute tank to layer over maxis, a tank with shorts, or a tank with jeans. You can shop Trend HERE. Lauren picked up some leather pants and now after looking at them online...I may need some too!

They also have a shirt that kind of sums up my mornings. I wore it yesterday and got so many compliments especially at Starbucks...haha! You can find it HERE. Softest material ever!

Other than that our spring break has consisted of lots of playing, pj's, outings, and family time. I told Joey the other day, this was the best week ever. I won't lie it will be hard going back to work but I am thankful for even having a spring break with these mostly sweet (haha) kiddos. 

Ella and I are going to take a break from our movie and start organizing and going through sewing stuff. My dream is for the end to look like this:
